Summary

The course "Welcome", "Meet Your Instructor" and unit "Introduction" sections are provided as part of the default online course template.


This article provides a technical overview of working with those sections, with a more comprehensive goal of providing instructions for the following Lessons tool actions:

  • Working with sections and columns
  • Adding and editing text
  • Rearranging page items
  • Embedding images and videos

Instructions

Create a section

  1. Identify where the new section should be placed on the page.
  2. Select the + (plus icon) to the right of item directly below where the new section should be placed.
  3. Select Add section break above from the "Add new item above this one" menu.
  4. Use the Reorder function to move the section break around the page or move items into the new section.

Create a column

  1. Identify where the new column should be placed on the page.
  2. Select the + (plus icon) to the right of item directly below where the new column should be placed.
  3. Select Add column break above from the "Add new item above this one" menu.
  4. Use the Reorder function to move the column break around the page or move items into the new column.

Change the column width

  1. Select the Column Properties button, located to the top-left of the desired column.
  2. Check the Double Width option.
    • This will adjust the column to be twice the normal width.
    • Adjacent columns in a row will be sized accordingly.
    • The Double Width option may be applied to multiple columns in a row.
  3. Select Save

Modify the column/section appearance

  1. Select the Column Properties button, located to the top-left of the desired column/section.
  2. Select the drop-down menu labeled as Column color scheme and choose a new coloring scheme.
  3. Select Save

Update a section title

  1. Select the Column Properties button, located to the top-left of the desired section.
  2. Enter a new section title in the text field labeled Section Title
  3. Select Save

Add and edit text

  1. Select an Add Content button
    • To add text to the bottom of the page, select the Add Content button located in the top toolbar.
    • * To add text to the bottom of a column/section, select the [+] plus icon located in the bottom-right of the column/section.
    • * To insert a new block of text among other items on the page, select the [+] plus icon to the next to the content directly below where the new text should be placed.
  2. Use the rich text editor to author and format text as desired.
  3. Select Save to complete adding text to the page.
    • Select the edit/pencil icon next to a text item to edit the text.

Rearrange items on the page

  1. Select Reorder, located in the top toolbar.
  2. Click and drag items to move up or down.
  3. Select the red X next to an item to remove it from the page.
  4. Select Save to complete rearranging items.

Embed an image from Resources

  1. Select an Add Content button*
  2. Select Embed content on page
  3. Select the link labeled: Or select existing files from Resources
  4. Navigate to the desired image and click Select, located to the right of the desired item.
  5. When all desired items have been selected, click Continue.
  6. To modify the image size, use the column width options, or select the Edit/Pencil icon next to the image and update the width/height fields.

Embed a video from YouTube

  1. Select an Add Content button*
  2. Select Embed content on page
  3. Paste the YouTube video URL or embed code into the text field labeled: Or add a URL or embed code
  4. A preview of the video will be displayed, select Save to complete embedding the video.
