This article is part two of the Guide to staging an online course site series.

Summary

  • Hide the tools and items in the course menu that will not be used in the course by using the Tool Order function in Site Info.
  • Hiding extraneous menu items helps to eliminate clutter, alleviate confusion for students, and facilitates the course navigation experience.
  • You will continue to have access to the hidden tools and menu item which are displayed to you as grayed out with a hidden icon.
  • The tools will only be hidden in the student's view of the course tool menu, however, students will have access to the content located in the tool. For example, you may link to files located in Resources, despite the tool being hidden from students.
  • You may add other tools to the course using the Manage Tools function in Site Info.
  • There are many additional tools available for use in a course, including integrations with external services.
